PAST SPEAKING EVENTS
Grassroots activists often need legal representation, especially
in criminal, civil rights, and civil liberties matters. Frequently,
they are unable to secure representation, especially if they
require low-cost services. Ms. Keith and Ms. Regan will
discuss the importance of activist representation, rubrics for
selecting cases, and general advice to grassroots activists and
their counsel, while Mr. Potter will address government and
corporate efforts to repress animal activism.
April 25, 2008
Worthington Kilbourne High School
Columbus, OH 43235
Shannon Keith will be speaking/appearing by teleconference.
"Behind the Mask" will be shown April 22nd and 23rd.
Shannon will specifically address the allegations made by the previous speaker, David White from the Ohio
Farm Bureau, who will be speaking the day before.
May 10th and 11th, 2008
Animal Liberation Conference, Evergreen State College (Olympia, Washington)
Shannon Keith will be speaking, presenting a "Know Your Legal Rights" workshop, and showing her documentary, "Behind the Mask."
The event is presented by the Evergreen Animal Rights Network (EARN), a student group at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, and Olympia Animal Rights (OAR), a community group.
The aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity for activists to network, build alliances, and discuss how to further the goals of the movement. This conference is designed for people who have already accepted the premise of animal rights and are ready to take the next step. Although we don't presume to know what this next step should be, we hope that this conference will produce constructive results. The format of this conference will include round-table discussion, hands-on workshops, lectures, film screenings, and musical performances. Workshops will address emergency animal care, labor rights within animal agriculture, grassroots activism, and security culture.
